Screenwriting Snippet #01: Bridget paints her nails
COMP: think the Main Character who works as a barista in Promising Young Woman.
FADE IN:
INT. RETAIL FLOOR - DAY
BRIDGET (AGE: 29, messy red hair, looks like a catalogue model in upscale clothing) stands at the front POINT OF SALE.
Bright LED lights shine down.
She paints her nails.
The SOUND of the bustle of customers.
A CUSTOMER approaches Bridget at POS.
CUSTOMER
Hi.
Bridget glances up. She looks back down and continues to paint her nails.
BRIDGET
Can I help you?
CUSTOMER
I’d like to get this, please.
BRIDGET
Cool.
Bridget points her finger at the customer, without looking up still.
BRIDGET
(exaggerating)
Just give me o-oooone second.
The customer’s eyes roll back. She SCOFFS.
Bridget sticks the nail polish top back in the container. She wipes spilled polish off the counter.
Her head still down.
CUSTOMER
Are you working? I can get someone else to help.
BRIDGET
Oh no, no. I’m working. I can help.
CUSTOMER
It doesn’t look like it.
Bridget lets out a SIGH, and very slowly lifts her head up from painting.
She slowly reaches across the counter and scans the customer’s scarf.
BRIDGET
Would you like a bag for ten cents?
CUSTOMER
No.
BRIDGET

The customer thrusts their AMEX down onto the Stripe card reader.
Bridget pushes the scarf across the table.
CUSTOMER
(huffs)
Thank you.
BRIDGET
(forcing a smile)

Bridget rolls her eyes and resumes painting her nails.
